When is it necessary to convert to five lug if at all?

Its really not necessary at all. They make just as good of brake kits for 4-lug as they do for 5-lug. You just have to go with a bigger wheel, and there are more wheels to choose from in 5-lug. If you were gong to road race the car I would recomend the 5- lug.

They make axles just as strong for 4 lug as they do for 5 lug.

Moser and AlloyUSA make stronger 28 and 31 spline axles that are 4 lug
