Low Coolant Effects...
Hey guys!
I haven't been in the 5.0 section for quite some time, since I got my 03 Mach a few months ago...
Anyways, I've been driving my 94 5.0L GT as a sort of winter beater...and today the low coolant light was on, so I pulled over and checked...it was very low, so I filled it all the way up and drove home
What happens if the car doesnt have enough coolant in it? I know, ignorant question
Also, what can I do to fix it...think maybe just replace the coolant gasket that might have cracked, I'm guessing?

If you're asking, "Was any damage caused by running with low coolant," the answer is no...as long as it didn't overheat.

Half the time my light comes on for no reason when it is REALLY cold outside. I've been told they "stick"from time to time, but as long as the car doesnt overheat than having low coolant in the overlfow bottle is nothing to worry about. Its when the radiator runs low you should stop and fill it.

on the 94-95, there is a sensor in the bottom of the coolant bottle, you are probably using a small amount of coolant just like I am.
Last winter, i was adding coolant to the reservoir once a week... and it STOPPED leaking when summer came around.
The leak is due to the metal of the radiator constricting slightly when it gets cold, and forms a small are for a leak. when you start the car and begin to driv it, the system pressurizes, and some coolant gets pushed out. once it heats up, it seals, and you stop leaking fluid. Just stay on top of it, or wait until the car is cold and pressure test the radiator. You will probably find that the radiator itself is leaking!
