well i dont have a socket i dont want but i took the engine and tranny out so it doesnt really move from where it is, im just going to double check but im right in thinking i cant get the rack and pinion off without the wheels off right?

jack the car up, support on jackstands or tires. lock the steering colum, in straigh position or close.
unbolt the two tie rods from the hubs(leave on rack).
, remove the two rack mounting bolts/nuts for rack,
remove the small pinion bolt on steering shaft driver side near exhaust, youll have to beat the two pieces apart. soak in w 40 overnight helped.
remove the lines at the rack when its out of its position to make very easy. an hour job or less.
oh , dont even bother trying to get the tie rods off the rack, their rusted to stay, just leave em on and buy new ones $10 each. keep tires centered as possible and then get alignment
