My 306, help needed
So my 306 is coming in tomorrow and I am a few hours away from getting my stock 302 out, also I have an E303 cam on its way. I had question on how to isntall a cam (when engine is on the stand,) how to set the distributor correctly, and as well adjusting stud mounted rockers correctly. All the help would be appreciated. The instruction that are on summit for the stud mounted are actual for pedestal... http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
Any help would be great and I want to get my car running soon.

Also, check my cardomain for a article onadjusting rockers... I think I have something on there but not positive.

Rockers are easy. Crank the #1 cylinder to TDC on the exhaust stroke, both lifters will be at the lowes point in their travel (crank the engine around a bit, you will see what this looks like..makes things easier). Grip the pushrod between your thumb and index finger, and twirl it back and forth LIGHTLY and quickly. Start turning the nut on the rocker slowly until the pushrod JUST stops moving. Of course you'll be able to wrench it around, but stop when you can't move it just with extremely light effort. This is zero lash. After that, turn the rocker nut 1/2-3/4 of a turn, and if there is an allen head in the middle of it tighten that down. Do this for both rockers, and that cylinder is done. Now turn the crank 1/4 revolution, and do the next cylinder in the firing order. If you don't want to worry about how to turn the crank exactly 1/4 of a turn, just watch the lifters in their travel. The firing order for a HO is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.
Edit: 88 posted up a great link, that article is great. One thing to remember if following it though...on step 24 it has you take the old cam out without removing the lifters first. REMOVE THE LIFTERS FIRST! If not, you will hear the sweet satisfying thunk of lifters falling into your oilpan, and that is NOT fun. Good luck!

Not to worried about my lifter falling into the oilpan, I am going to be doing this all on a stand... Anyways I have seen so many mixed instructions for rocker installation, I see something like wait for the exhaust to be 2/3 down then you are ready to adjust the rocker and stuff like that. I see the most like you said where the lifters are at the lowest (meaning not opening the valves.) Thanks for all your guys help.

Bah I read 88gt cardomain and cam adjustment follows such as this:
The only method to adjust valves properly is as follows
1 Turn the motor over till the exhaust valve just starts to open.
2 Adjust the intake valve on that cylinder
3 Turn the motor over till the intake valve starts to close
4 Adjust the exhaust valve
This will work on any motor and any cam
I have no problem with this it is just I find it difficult watching a pushrod just about to open, should I just tighten a rocker and wait till I can't spin it then go to the other valve and adjust that rocker? Anyone have a brilliant idea of how you know the exhaust valve is opening when going to adjust the intake.
