Default 5.0 vs 5.0 ho

my friend has an 89 lx hatch with a 2.3 in it. he is on a BUDGET so he is looking for a used 5.0 to rebuild himself and swap into his fox. i found a 5.0 in craigslist for $125, it was pulled from a towncar i think and the guy says its not the HO.

is it worth it to buy this one? the guy says it was running when it was pulled from the car. i know the firing order is diff but with new h/c/i and a rebuild will the performance be less than a 5.0 ho with a rebuild and the same heads, cam, and intake?

it seems like a good deal but i was wondering if he should buy this one or keep looking for a HO.
thanks

maybe a 5.0 non ho has cast pistons and only 8.5 or 9.0 comp. you can make one just as powerful with the almighty $$$$.

realistically, there is no difference between an HO ans non HO... the cam is what makes the motors different.

block and internals are pretty much the same, aside from materials possibly... h/c/i swap and youll be all set

Why haven't you dropped the 92 motor in you 86 so you don't have the flat top pistons or is the motor on its way out?

motors fine, it's got 20k on a rebuilt bottom end with a new oil pump and pan. i just dont want to switch from a 5.0 to a 5.0. i will put on all the bolt-ons i can.. then when the time comes i will build a 331 stroker wich comes with a new valve cut pistons anyways.
