RE: help with a front cover also call a timing cover
the timing cover has a seal in it that goes around the crank shaft end. what i did with mine (not sure if this is the right way but it worked for me) i took some pliers and worked the seal out. once we got it out we had more play with the timing cover. oh and also you do have to loosen the oil pan bolts. i loosed all of mine to make it easier. you dont have to take then all the way out, and be care full with the oil pan gasket. your not going to want to replace it.. oh and for where the oil pan bolts to the bottom of the timing cover.. ya make sure you use the to cork peices that came with your gasket kit. mine had them and i didnt figure that out untill i had it all back to gether.. buti RTVed it pretty good and so far after 700 miles, no leaks. =] also, not sure if your going to use RTV or not, but i have heard its not really needed, its more of a just in case kind of thing. i was recamended to use High Tach Gasket sealer. i think thats what its called. either way just be careful and take your time and you should do fine.

+1...also the cover is on dowles, so it wont just fall off. It wouldn't be a bad idea to loosen the whole oil pan before you reinstall it..it will be easier to get the oil pan gasket peices in the proper place.
