lifter still good?
in the middle of my cam swap and im doing the valve train right now (svo 1.6 ped mount roller rockers). i got the rockers on, with the right preload for the lifters, but when i was all done i decsided to push on each rocker periodically as i was turning over the motor and i noticed that there where about 5 or 6rockers that i could push on and with asome pressure i could depress the lifter by hand (alittle)!?! my question is,should ibe able to do this by hand?i do know that you couldn't always push the lifters down it just happened every once and a while. (on a side note the motors been sitting for 2 weeks so the lifter arn't completely full of oil). what do you guys think?

RE: lifter still good?
before you put the lifters in did you let them sit in a container of oil? and i think you should be able to push them in a little i did cam and lifter swap on a feiro one of the lifters was eaten through by the cam and you could push it all the way down the other lifters you could push on a little but it wasnt easy

didn't soak them in oil.but wouldn't they all be easy to depress if they need to be soaked in oil? do you think that if i soak the ones that are "depressable" that they would become no longer "depressable"? if figure if they are bad or not supposed to be able to depress by hand i should replace them now while i have my lower intake off. let me know what you guys think

RE: lifter still good?
well i tried soaking 2 of my lifters in engine oil over night to see if this would help the problem and i was still able to depress the lefters by hand. does this mean they are bad? could really use the input

If you are installing new lifters, I would not worry about the fact that a few can be depressed. Especially if they have not been soaked in oil. Otherwise you are making a mistake if you use the original lifters with the new cam. Not to say it wont work, hell my best friend is running a used lifter, used pushrod and used connecting rod and it still sees 7 grand, but common practice is buy all new lifters if replacing the cam. I don't think the reasons why are hard to figure out.

I would go with new lifters , because how the cam wears out the old lifters , just if your spending the money then you dont have to worrie about if there good , if the engine was runnin fine b4 i dont c why they shouldnt work now make sure you soak them so you dont burn them up because it will take a while for oil to get to them then you would be fu*cked
