Default New to the forum, need some help.

Hey all,

Well to the point, I am looking at buying an 87 GT, auto, 88,000 milesfrom a guy I work with. Its got an issuse or two (but what car dosent). Oil pressure is dropping sometimes, usualy at a stop light, if you give it gas it comesup. Does not make any noises thatI can hear. (no knocking) We both think its the pump, but i have heard it could be bearings as well. Is there any tests that I can do to tell? I dont want to have to drop the pan and just do the pump and have the same problem. Thanks for any help

-Tom

How much is it dropping? Its normal for it to drop at idle or at low speeds..... its supposed to rise with the rpm's.

It drops right down almost to 0. Give it gas and it comes up some.

mine does that. is it the stock meter? if so it will that thing sucks you want an after market one. as long as the meter doesnt drop to zero (or in the red line) than its ok. mine varies from like the first line to about the middle. its normal

that stock meter measures if theres pressure or not....its not even close to accurate. once you get a mechanicle gauge then you will know for sure. so if you wanna test it buy a 25 dollar gauge and hook it up to an oil sending unit and see what it measures
