stang went dead now wont start help!!!
i was sitting in traffic today and it just cut off on me. i pushed it out of the way and after sitting about 20 it finally started. it ran really rough and cut back off about 5 min later. it wouldnt crank any more after that. i replaced the plug wires, cap and button and replaced the ignition module. after replacing the module it ran about 10 secs and cut back off. i took both ignition modules to autozone and both came up bad. i bought another one and still wont crank. im lost on this one and need help asap. its a 79 with a carbed 302.

RE: stang went dead now wont start help!!!
My car did the same thing the night I bought it, on my test drive. I finally got it back to a garage, and found that the wires going to the alternator were spliced and corroded really bad. It also had a loose ground on the battery. Alot of people don't realize how important good connections, and thicker guage wires help with reliability, and performance. A weak electrical system will leave you dead in the water in a heartbeat. I was a car stereo installer for 12 years, and seeing these kinds of issues were a daily occurrence. If you run a lead acid battery, as opposed to a gel cell, once that battery goes dead one time, you wil only get about 85% of a full cahrge after that. The lead plates will warp themselves out of spec, and never be as good as they once were. Also when low voltage happens in the car, any weak connection will start to corrode, and will build up a film on the copper that is not a good conductor. I hope this helps.

i replaced the pickup coil, plugwires, rotor button, distributor cap, ingiton module, i finally got it to crank but something still isnt right. the carb keeps backfiring now and it doesnt idle like it did before
