Default Reposition brackets for lifting engine?

I'm all set to remove the engine from my 90GT. My question is this:

The engine came with two brackets for lifting the engine, both were originally mounted on the rearmost exhust ports. Now I've checked my manual, and it doesn't say anything about moving them to remove the engine, but the position they're in now makes it pretty clear that the front end of the engine is going to fall if I try to remove it. For the best balance, should I reposition them to the second or third exhaust port? Or maybe one of each?

you can always put one of the bolts that screws into the front of the heads through a loop in the chain you are using and screw it into the head thats how i do it at work anyway works just as well save you some time too

Yeah, that sounds pretty practical. Lifting from four points instead of two. You wouldn't be able to tilt the engine, but since you aren't taking the trans with it, it doesn't really matter.

I always pull the engine by putting a bolt through a chain at where the bellhousing should be and where the ac braket bolts in. If you lift in the center of the chain you can easily manover the engine out without scratching or touching anything.

I think you drivers side bracket has been moved to the rear somewhere in its life. My 89LX brackets were mounted on the front left & right rear exhaust ports. I took the original engine out recently & put in a good junk yard 302HO & installed BBK shorty headers and the original brackets would not work because the tubes are bigger on the BBK headers and would not accept the brackets. I played with the original brackets and mounted them on the drivers side front head and passenger side rear head. You can see the bracketry work in my photo gallery. Also note: Watch out for the chain & fuel rail if you still have it mounted. Hope this helps.

I purchased an extra set of lift brackets from a j/y.

I now use 4 lift points and a load leveler when pulling the motor/trans.

I'll never do it any other way
