Im pretty sure that red thing in his pic has something to do with preventing axle tube flex under hard loads, but I could be wrong.

ya are you talking about a diff cover, or one of those CHE axle braces?

exactly. the idea behind it is to "triangulate" the rear axle to help eliminate axle tube distortion, which can cause axle breakage, or even bending of the rear axle tubes themselves

It also throws the lash off on the ring and pinion which can end up chickleting your ring/pinion gear. My buddy did that very thing. Big mess. He had 3 teeth that weren't chewed all up on his ring gear. The rest were ate up. He runs one now and i do to. Cheap insurance no matter the hp. imo
