I've always thought powershifting to be shifting your car with the clutch but not taking your foot off the gas. Shifting without the clutch is just retarded.

Between Power shifting and Speed Shifting, because ive heard that T-5s cant take powershifting but speed shifting is ok, so whats the difference?
i do alot of track racing fellas and speed shifting is shifting as fast as you can and sometimes this is accomplished by half clutching or clutching just enough to get the next gear which takes adjustment of the clutch to the shortest throw possible for engagement. i know alot of guys who power shift which is turning enough rpm to shift without clutching but most of these guys shave every other tooth in order to accomplish this without the risk of breaking a tooth off completely when doing this.

it does, i hear it will kill the trannys almost instantly, but i HEARD that

a, whats IIRC
b, not using the clutch, like getting the engines RPMS to match the speed of the car and pulling it into neutral and then same thing into next gear?
in reply to b i think thats liek double clutching u get the car in neutral to match the rpms of the transmission with the engine and then u can shift it into the next gear becasue everythigns spinnig at teh same rate and then they mesh, i seen some guy do it in a jetta, thats the only way he shifted, guess it doesnt hurt the trans
yeah, but without the clutch

had to get used to it when I drove semi trucks, a fully loaded semi you can start it in 1st gear and drive away, talk about torque[&:]

ok to clear one thing up.... DO NOT shift w. out the clutch... not even if you put it in neutral, match rpms and then put it in gear... DONT DO IT... kills syncros....

everything bein talked about in this thread is bad for trannys(yea sept those semis, but thats not a mustang or a t5[8D])

speed shifting as in just clutching just enough to shift... yup hurts syncros
power shifting as in w. no clutch... stupid to do... kills syncros
shifting w. out clutch, but still matching rpms... still hurts syncros...

i agree dimebag, but he wanted to know the diffrence in power shifting and speed shifting so i explained, but notice i also mentioned that most guys that power shift have their trannies modified for this and they are full fledged drag cars as is mine. this is not a recomended practice for any street car.
