Default off topic question?

I know this is off topic but you guys always seem to know almost everything. Yesterday I was driving my wifes 2002 Mountaineer and the throttle got stuck on the highway and in order for me to slow down I had to shut off the key (once I had hit the breaks and was in the decell lane). Question is what would cause this? The truck has a 4.6 V8 and it was 2 degrees here yesterday, I have read something about moisture in the pcv system freezing could cause this. The truck usually never sits out overnight but it did the night before this happened. So I don't know if this had something to do with it or not. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Frozen throttle cable would hold the throttle open. PCV wouldn't do that.

BTW, in the 4.6 section, this would be on topic

You mean you didn't just let it keep pulling and smash over a guard rail Hollywood style?

Throttle cable, or cruise cable, is a good first guess.

I let it warm up and drove about 5 miles stopped back at home let it run while I was there and then left again and it happened about 5 miles down the road.

Checked this morning no recalls, except tires, and rear window supports.
