well guys im a newbie great site. i have an 89 vert lx 5.0 with a 5 speed trans. now my problem is when i shift in high rpm from 2nd to 3rd it will girind now yesturday i changed the fluid out and adjusted the cable and it hasnt done it again BUT it still has a whine sound. my car sounds like if it has a whipple!

synchro's are worn

don't sweat it it too much, worst case scenario is if you continue to powershift it, it will get harder to go in gear.

as far as the trans itself, it's fine

it will do it more when it's cold too, so let it warm up b4 thrashing it

its driving me nuts it does it sometimes out of the blue and the whine?

i'm sure your due for a rebuild sooner or later , but like i said, it's not that big of a deal until you break something, or it stops going into gear , which it should be far from that

I think all manual gearboxes have a whine to them. like he said, let engine/trans warm up and give a little time between shifts when its cold, i get a grind alot when i try to shift to fast and its cold, or if my clutch isnt just tight enough...

1st... the wine... if you have a short throw shifter thats causing it, its not deadening the sound like the stocker does.... even if it is stock, its not amything to worry abuot

as for the grind... its your 3rd gear syncro going out... i no they told u not a big deal, but if u wanna keep shifting quick u should look into a rebuild soon(pm 94gtcoupe, he rebuilds them for cheap, and knows his ****). what will happen is it will get worse and worse and worse and before you know it you will be having to match up rpms to put it in 3rd.
