Default engine dip and boring out

ok im gunna be moving soon and we are gunna have a garage so im gunna take the oppertunity to pull my engine and do a complete rebuild i want to strip it down to a bare block and get it dipped and then get it bored over my question is how much should i get it bored over i dont need something rediculously thin and a nice set of notched out forged aluminum pistons and also how much does it usually cost to get the bock bored and honed?

shouldnt be more than a couple hundred for a bore and hone, and get it bored the least possible to make the cylinder wall straight.

yea, keep those cylinder walls thick as you can, boring bigger wont give more power.

mine is 0.040 over and fine so far, but thinner walls wont last as long as thicker ones

There is no noticeable difference to a larger bore. Not in the sizes we are talking about.
Smaller bores will preserve the integrity of the block. The 302 isn't known for its strength, so don't make it any worse.


The cost will depend on what you have done.
I have paid 3-400 for a bore/hone/clean job.

My current build is costing a little more... $800
The block has been decked square andthe main bore had to be straightened. The bores were taken .040 over (on a 351w block), and the bore hone was done with a deck plate.
It will cost a little more for higher quality work...

im just gunna have a repair bore than so it will only be 10 over with a hone then im gunna put in a new crank and pistons and all myself i have a shop at my desposle when i need it
