I wonder how true this is... Have any more info on it?

ORIGINAL: Joel5.0

As Thumper or any of his customers would say....B-303 advanced 4°, his ported E7's, a good set of gears and a good tune = high 12s N/A.

Any upgrade to the cam = upgraded valve springs required....my 2¢.

why spend 600 to get a thumper job on stock heads when you can just save up a little longer and for 600 and get some of the best heads you can buy with the AFR 165s

(Example of Ported vs buying)

Dont look at the ETs or the mph... just the increase in performance before and after, If the Edelbrocks or Trick flows dont seem to be making the performance you wanted.... port work "could" be the answer !! GT40s... and thinking of up grading and spending 1000.00 + in new heads?? Port work !! Those E7s suck!! Port work!!

Check around, see what the new heads are costing AND all the add'l "stuff" to make those heads work ( push rods, headers ect...). Maybe the only thing you need is to have the existing heads Ported and Polished to knock off that 3 or 4 tenths !! or get that extra 30-50 RWHP !! ( HP numbers are heads only and may vary, more mods will equal more HP, the higher the quality of the Ports, less the improvements )

ET's and MPH supplied by customers.. IF no MPH shown, customer didnt provide!

I wouldn't bother with a cam until you've got some other stuff that will really draw the potential out of it (i.e. heads, intake). For the price of the cam I'd just go GT40, if you can find a pre-'97 Exploder you'll have the heads and a nicer intake as well. The other thing about a cam is that you want to replace lifters at the same time, that would be another $130 or so that isn't really necessary right now.

dude i told u, u dont have e6 heads ur not an 86, unless u put a 86 block in ur car. u have e5's they are the same as e7's except they are not efi. only the 86 5.0 has e6 heads.

but +1 on the gt40 heads. and the e7's can make power but u HAVE to port them, if u dont port them they wont flow and no power shall be made. if u port em pretty good, go with a trick flow stage 1 cam and that intake u will have about 260-270 wheel.
good luck

i would just get a set of gt40 heads the e7's are worthless you should just be happy you dont have e6 heads like mine talk about crap[:'(]
NOT true, my brothers motor outta a 88 Crown Vic,blockwas markesE6SE, and the heads were too, so i dont know what you talking about really.
I agree on not spending 600 on port work, if you, or someone else is doin the work they hell yeah, and ported head is better then a non-ported head, hell mine are ported, and yeah im pushin about 250rwhp
and yes new cam= new vavle springs, maybe even with new roller rockers too.....

Right... But for the money you spend on the cam, you really won't be able to draw the full potential out of the cam swap until the engine can breathe better, the main component being heads. I would spend the money on the heads first though, LOT more bang for the buck. But that's just my opinion, up to you

^^ [in response to 90lxstanger] I think he's just saying the 86 Stang was the only Mustang to come w/ E6's (and flat top pistons for that matter).

Anyway, if you don't have any money the E7's will be okay ported out. Don't expect to make what you would w/ a good set of aftermarket aluminum heads w/o some extensive (and expensive) port work. Opening the runners some and removing the thermactor bumps is definitely an improvement over stock though and is free if you already have a Dremel or die grinder.

EDIT: What they've said is correct. You will notice some difference w/ the cam, but it isn't worth it IMO w/o better heads. Having said that, I'm running the E cam w/ my ported E7's, but I had the motor rebuilt (hence, everything apart anyway). You'd be more likely to see better gains by slapping some 1.7 RR's on the stock cam.

^Good point, like he said...thats whats been done to mine-thermactor bumps removed, and intake ported matched to GT-40 gaskets(i guess that be basically the Cobra lower?)

man dont argue, that is true ford only used the e6 heads one year, in 86. if ur bros car had e6 heads it was a replacement motor out of an 86 something. why would ford be that stupid and go back to the heads that were perhaps the worst they have ever made.
