Hrm... good question. The benefits of longtubes over standard shorties is obvious (equalize pressure, scavenging, etc.) But I'm not so sure how well they would fare over equal length shorties. Not sure if the benefots would be as great (if any at all, although I imagine they may have slightly better flow due to less curves, etc.) That's pure speculation though. Never thought about equal lentgh shorties.

Not true that LT's are only good for high HP cars...
ORIGINAL: 90mustang5.0

LT for lots of horse power, and shorties for avg hp is what i heard
Thats the conclusion I came to a while back when I did tons of research for my headers. I have no plans to pass ~300rwhp and found that shorties suited that setup best. If my goals were any higher at all I would have went with LT.
Yea, thats the conclusion that you got from prob getting information from posts on forums written by 15 yr old kids w/ no experience but who have HEARD that LT's are not good unless you have atleast 300hp. There are a few dyno tests between shorties and longtubes and the LT's always outperform them even on STOCK cars (I think the last dyno I checked out the shorties outperformed the LT's from 3200-3800 and besides that the LT's gained more hp/tq throughout the powerband). The few extra HP of the LT's on a stock car might now be worth the hassle to someone unless they plan on exceeding 300hp but that doesnt mean that they still arent good. And yes, you are right, most shorty headers are suitable until 450-500hp but that doesnt mean that longtubes arent suitable for cars below 300hp.

Yeah, the shortys may slightly bring better numbers in that range, but as you atated, tehy really perform well otherwise. Especialyl in the lower RPM levels. I've seen upwards of 40 HP / TQ gains in the lower RPMs which is a huge difference when racing.

And the more you mod your car the more the LT's are going to shine....

I'd buy lt. I called ford racing and they had told me long tubes will produce more hp but will loose a little torque comparing to the numbers runnin shorties

^^ Well, those might be the numbers they got but from every dyno comparisons I have checked out showed LT's gaining more TQ at low end [&:]
