Default New Cam, New Lifters?

I am about ready to put in my new cam and am debating on getting new lifters or not. Now i know some of you say every time you install a new cam you must install new lifters, but i was reading on the Crane site, they make the Steeda #19 cam, and in the 4th paragraph of this page: http://www.cranecams.com/pdf/346e.pdf it says the factory roller tappets can be reused.

How many miles can you usually put on stock lifters before they start ticking or going bad?

i dont think there is a general rule for it. it depends on how well the car is maintained.i have a 92 t-bird with a 5.0 ho in it and the top end has 216,000 miles on it and there not ticking and none of them have colapsed and no signs of them draining back. not ticking on start up or anything.

the top end of my motor has 289k and the guy that rebuilt my motor said my looked good so i dont know if there is a rule to it. but he told me if i do the intake or heads i should probly change them since i'll be in that area...i would say change em so you dont have to worry....not like they are expensive

the general rule is "if your intake is off, and your doing a cam swap... lifters are a $100 investment towards not tearing your motor apart again

I agree with adder, its kinda like insurance, you'd be crazy not to. I'd put new ones in, you'd be money and time ahead if you just replace them with the cam swap

how would reusing lifters with 60k miles ruin the motor? And it has nothing to do with laziness, its the same amount of work either way...

Tear the motor apart? If you consider the valve cover and the rockers and pushrods tearing the motor apart then yes. Lifters are not a hard thing to do. I would say that you dont need them. And the whole new lifters with a cam thing is not for roller lifters, that was a general rule for the flat tappet style.
