How much better are drilled and slotted rotors over stock? I think stock are like $45 and d/s $110. Info please?

I've got summit cross-drilled (non-slotted) on my car and I think they were like $55/ea (on clearance at the time).

I went cheap because I know I want to 5 lug it later. Those and ceramic pads / clean and lube fron and rear made a huge difference.

I have read the drilled is over kill if you are not road racing and that they will crack in the drilled holes after a while. The other thing said is they are high heat roters, so with just normal stopping you do not get them up to the proper temp to work good. Has anyone had that problem or is it just the companys that do not make the drilled rotors puting down their competitor?
