I have a 1992 GT 5.0....On my last long drive the OD would not engage ....at about 40 to 45 miles an hour the engine would freespin....it is OK in drive.....is this the OD band or is there anyother sensor switches involved that might cause this problem....it has only 41,000 miles. If it is the OD band...is it safe to use only in the drive mode.....thanks....

Is the throttle vavle linkage undone(or came undone) happened im my brother Grand Marquis,it did the EXACT same thing,smoked out the OD band, check that first(cant tell you exactly where it is, cuz i dont own a AOD car), but if you have a manual then you in luck or someone on here will know porbably. If yiu do drive it leave it in DRIVE, but i wouldnt leave the driveway, personally.

if its an aod check the throttle body shift cable gromit on the bottom of the throttle body because mine was broken and it did something similiar and dont drive it it i fried two trannies because it was messed up and i drove it

Yeah i think thats the TV linkage really, not positive, but it might be...........
