Default Grinding in my rr drum

I just started getting a grinding sound in my right rear brake drum the other day. I pulled the drum and found the piece that holds the parking brake cable had broken off, and was cutting a nice little groove in the drum. I pulled the piece out before heading to the drag strip (yes, I know it was stupid to race without my brake system fully in tact, so don't even bother posting about that) but it's still grinding. I don't want to fix it because I'm planning on doing a 5lug conversion with 4wheel disc brakes. I was told to use right side axles from a ranger for the swap, but nobody told me what year ranger to pull the axles from. Any advice? Can the ranger axles work with 4wheel disc brakes?
