Default factory tach reads high

Would anyone know why the in dash factory tach would read high. Its about 1000 rpms higher then my aftermarket tach which reads correctly...

try the new tach out on a friends car would be the easiest
also are you sure it switched for a v-8?

yeah my aftermarket one is switched for v8 ..but since my car use to be a 2.3 are the dash tach's wired different? if so ..would the fix be finding a dash from a v8?

my autometer does the same thing.. really annoying.. i got it all installed and everything, complete with shift light.. i got it off ebay.. and it reads about a grand or 2 too high..
is the tach just junk?

seems like the stockers are always off by 200-1000rpms, you can check it with a dyno ifyou ever go there, most of the aftermarket tachs require you to set a jumper to either 4, 6, or 8 cyl most of them are already setup for 8cyl just read your instructions,
