would a beefed up C4 work on a 460?

With a healthy 460 the C4 will need some things to live. At a minimum, alto red clutches, braze the front drum where they crack, kevlar band, add some clutches instead of the typical 5 and 5 setup. There is more to it, just depends on your needs and what the trans need to hold tq wise.

Yes, and by beefed up I assume you mean professionally built to withstand the rigors of duty.
Stroker's on the nails with what he says andthe caveat is how much power are you planning on making with this 460? If you need a reference on where to get one done, PM me. There is a shop in Stephenville, TX that built the C4 in my pickup now. Granted, it's behind a small block but they do BB C4s as well. The one in my p/u shifts like greased butter under a normal load but rattles my teeth under aggressive accel or if I'm shifting manually.
