Default lug stud problem

Well i snapped 2 lug nuts a few days ago, and today i got new ones and put them in. I used 5 washers between the lug nut and the housingto seat the first oneand it worked fine, except after it was seated completely, the stud snapped when i tried to unscrew it. I'm thinking I tightened it too much, but i stopped tightening it as soon as it was flush with the housing on the axle. Any one have any experience with this, maybe theres a better way to do this than the method I tried? Any help appreciated.

There is a tool that is specifically for that. I have them at work. Usually the method you chose works. May want to give it a second try. I assume you're talking about the rear correct.

I used a bearing bigger thant the radius of the stuck and get it them both 90% seated then pu the wheel back on and seat the rest of the way with the wheel on and then back off the lug nut and torque to proper specs

Would it be a good idea to coat the studs with WD-40 or a lubricant so thatthenutwill come off easier once the stud is seated? Or would this make no difference?

I found if you use plated lugnuts you need to use anti-sieze on the studs or the plating will chip off when tightening and itll jam the nut on there
I had 3 studs mangle and break because of this

when I put in my new studs I just hammered them in, but I already had my axles out
