Best T-5??

Best T-5??
I am looking to replace my current trans with a new or rebuilt T-5. I have an 89 LX 5.0. What are the opinions on this, should I go new or rebuilt? Which vendors have the best offerings of each? I am keeping my current trans and will rebuild it later when I have the time. Looking for a good WC T-5, nothing more than that needed since my HP plans are not going to be that high.
I see Jegs has new WC T-5's for aboout $1300. Is new worth the extra $, or will rebuilt, from a good rebuilder be as good?

You've basically got 3 options for a T5:
1--Rebuilt WC T5. A new one is definitely not worth it, as a rebuild will be just as strong/durable and the case has already been seasoned (cycled thru warm/cold).
2--Z spec T5. You'll most likely have to buy it new and it will be around the same as the new WC T5. It is a little stronger, but has a couple of advantages beyond the WC T5. 1st gear is 2.95 instead of 3.35, so you have a usable 1st gear, especially if you have steeper gears (3.55+). The lower ratio 1st also makes it stronger. 5th gear (OD) is .63 instead of .68, so your highway rpms will be lower. I'm running the Zspec w/ 3.55's and I'm spot on 2k rpm's at 70mph.
3--G-Force T5. Also known as Astro Performance's super alloy T5. It has a much higher power rating; hence upgraded and stronger internals. It also has a 2.95 1st gear and the 5th gear is .59 or .80. The .59 will put your hwy rpm's down even further or the .80 will make 5th a little more usable as a passing gear. The .80 is usually found in road race tranny's, but some people like to run them on the street.

Yeah, it'd probably make it a little slower thru first, but I would recommend getting gears before any other mods anyway. Gears will give you the most bang for the buck in terms of performance.
