Default Help choosing mods

I just picked up a 89 lx vert. It's all stock with on auto tranny. I want to keep the auto for sure due to consistancy. What is a good stall converter to go with? Will this tranny even handle 450 hp? I'm gonna keep it pretty simple. Forged internals, full exhaust, gears, cam, cai, and a 200 shot. I want to try to keep it getting pretty good gas milage because it's my dd. That's why I'm going with nitrous. I just don't know anything about the auto tranny because everything I've ever owned had a five speed. Any help would be great. I was told that I could get a new tranny to handle the power for right at 1000 but will it come with a converter? Can you even get a tranny for that price or was he giving me a line of crap?

Forged internals are going to be useless without a good h/c/i. Do that first. 450hp is new trans time, my buddy had a blown '89 with 340rwhp and a Spec clutch, still couldn't floor it because the trans was trying to kill itself

I'm gonna stick with an auto. Anybody know a good company to get an auto tranny that will handle 450 hp?

Lentech, PA, etc. BUT I doubt your going to get a trans for 1K to handle 450hp. Anyway, there are people on here who run 400-450hp on stock AOD-AODE transmissions. You should go with a nice shift kit or valve body and a nice stall. Prob around 3K would be somewhere in your range. edgeracingconverters.com should be able to hook you up w/ a nice converter for you. As for the 200 shot, be careful and know what you are doing before you go spraying a 200 shot on your motor

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear. I've run nitrous on every car I've ever had. I had it on the one I have now but I took it off when I installed the charger. There is a really good race shop by the house here and there really good with nitrous. Thanks again.

+1 for edgeracingconverters.com That is what i run, and so far i like it. I think you could get away with that kind of power on an AOD for awhile, especially since you will only soo 450RWHP for a short distance when spraying

It'll only be sprayed while racing. I sprayed my first car all the time just because it was the first time I ran nitrous. I went through a bottle a week just messing around. I'm over that now so it'll just be used for racing. I'm going for a sleeper and I figure nitrous is the best way to do that. I want it to keep getting decent gas milage to. When I put the blower on my newer car the milage did fall a little and the blower can be heard. It's hard to sand bag somebody with a blower also. The only way is to short shift it and even then people can tell. The guy at the race shop is known for hidding kits. He can hide anything so I'll let him take care of that. Thanks again for the help.
