Still Dont Get The 5 Lug Conversion....
I still dont get why people do it. The only reason that I can see doing the 5 lug conversion isif the wheels you want are not made in 4 lug (there are a few but not many). And people say that they are stronger, bla bla... A 4 lug setup can be made to handle tons of power. And most big manufactures make brake kits for 4 lug also. Someone want to tell me why everything chooses to switch to 5 lug right off the bat? I just dont get it when I see people with bolt on 5.0's running Cobra wheels (or whatever weels they make in 4 lug) jump to a 5 lug conversion? ....... any takers?

Well its because alot of people drag race like myself and we prefer/like a certain set of wheels to go along with it. You show me a set of 4-lug WELD PROSTARS, not Draglites. There aint none. Plus like you said there are alot of other wheel options out there. And it is stronger because you have another stud sticking out to help hold the wheel on. Very practicle if you ask me. Besides when you beef up the rear, most if not all the strong axles are 5 lug.

Its for a larger rim selection. Not to mention if you do the mark7 conversion your front rotors are floating. Meaning that you dont have to take apart the bearings in order to swap a rotor. Also, the rotor has a larger braking surface, which therefore = more braking power.

Let me be clear...... for STREET CARS. Not drag racing, road racing, etc. The average street car does not ned 13" rotors. And yes you can get strong axles for a 4 lug, how about moser 31 spline axles? Gauranteed strong enough for 90% of everyones car on this damn forum!
So once again, street cars for 5 lug conversions just dont make sense to me... anyone else?

The rotors arent any larger. The hub on the mark7 brake setup is smaller, so there is more surface area contact. Its still a 12" rotor. ANd like I said before the whole floating rotor makes it a whole lot easier to do a brake job.
