Like Adder said... The question is more on you. How much do you have to spend/budget? This will decide on internal materials (Forged?), balancing, and coatings on internal parts.

Check out Summit to get an idea of PARTS, and then compare that to local machine shops in your area. Will those local shops build the engine with YOUR parts or parts that they supply. Remember GOOGLE is your friend, I searched on google and found a document 351W stroker build. Good luck.

I read the first page, but I'm not going to read the next 4 pages. In case no one has given you a serious answer yet, I would estimate the ADDITIONAL cost in building a 408 versus a 351 would be in the neighborhood of $1500 or less. Of course this will depend on the crap you put in it. But I think I can probably get you a Scat kit with good (upgraded)pistons, balancer and flexplate for in the neighborhood of $1300-1400. Additional machine work is just some clearancing. All other costs would be the same as building a 351W.

Now I'm not saying you can build a 408W for $1500. I'm saying $1500 ADDITIONAL... using good parts. Of course, if you're a barnyard mechanic with a barnyard machinist, you could probably do the entire motor for under $1500... with CAT parts. LOL

BTW, I can get you a 393 kit, flexplate and balancer all for under $1k (with good pistons). Just something to think about.

Geez, WTF was I thinking. 351W is 28oz anyway. All you need is a kit. I've been quoting too many 347s lately.

408 should definately be less than $1500 additional.
