Default how long?

hey, I'm still in the process of debating what will soon replace the engine currently sitting between the shock towers of my '86 and I came up with a few more questions...

1. how many miles will the bottom end of a 302 last?

2. If I decide to rebuild a block, can I hone the cylinders using a cylinder hone, and will that cause me to need larger pistons?

3. what company sells stock size pistons with valve recesses? (plan to run GT40 heads)

4. what are the advantages of magnafluxing, hot tanking and boring .30 over?

5.is there an MSD ignition system that will fit my needs of a mild built street engine?

6. will the speedo, tach, oil pressure, odometer, and remaning gauges hook up to the future V8 with ease (car is currently a V-6)

7. will the auto trans (c4 i think) bolt up to a 302 with a different bell housing or will mine work fine?) or what do I need to change to convert to an AOD

8. is there a company that makes all the brackets I would need for the acessories, or are they easy to find in junkyards.

any info will be great as I try to iron out the details. I want to ssave as much money as I can on this build and try to have everything ready so I can swap out the engines and etc. in about a week...

Lol, to answer your question about how long they last, it all depends on how hard you run it and how good you are at maintenance. They usually last quite a while from what i've heard. (mine has 110K and it still runs strong *knock on wood*)
#6 is the only one i know a good answer on. Get Autometer guages! Stockers are crap.

thanks, is there an autometer speedo that retains an odometer? I want to keep it legal as it is soley a steet car now, give or take the trip odometer. also do they sell the gauges I need that will fit into the factory gauge pod?

I know what you mean about stockers being crap too... 3 of them dont work anyway (temp, oil pressure, voltage)

#5 - MSD 6A or 6AL with matching coil and cap and rotor will be plenty.

Forget MSD. Check out Mallory, just as good if not better and a heck of a lot cheaper. www.malloryperformance.com Not a fan of paying for names...

ooh, thanks I forgot about Mallory. my roommate mentioned something about painless wiring, but I think they are more for resto's and racing cars...

I'm appreciating the info thus far, you guys are saving me a ton of time and searching and I thank each and every one of you who has replied to my posts.

By the way, has anyone checked out the link on my sig? That is my car, though the picture was taken in October '06. I have since removed the crappy lights from the bumper and added black/flame seat covers. just havnt had time to take another nice shot of her.

I'd have the pic in my sig only I cant figure out how to make it work...
