Default Cooling fan wiring question

My 5.0 fan stopped running and causing the car to get hot. When I had it looked at, the we disconnected the wires and put the negative one on the battery to see if the fan is the problem. The fan started so I retraced the wire that was connected from the fan to my fuse boxunder the driver side and found out that it had been connected with my blinker lights, (which stopped working when the fan did at the same time)! I just reconnected them cuz the crimp holding them together was old and was messing up the connection. Is this supposed to be wired like this? If not what do I do to rewire it right?

No...Its not suppose to be wired like this stock... If you have a fox body car, you should have a fan clutch. If your fan is electric, someone has put it in...Which is a great upgrade. If your fan runs all the time when the car has power to the fuse, it will actually cause your car to run hotter than normal because of the wind restriction. the best thing to do is pick up a thermostatic fan controller from Advance or another parts store. The cheap one is like 20 bucks. Wire it like it describes, and you will be able to adjust it to kick on just like a normal fan will off of the coolant temperature sensor... Wire it directly to the battery if you wish or a dependable, higher amp fuse... Good luck

yeah itz a foxbody.and fromhow youare describing it I think it is a electric fan cuz idon't know know anything about the fan clutch. Itz all wired up. Honestly tho, I don't think it is even hooked up to the sensor. It goes straight to tha fuse box. Even if the fan running when the car is onand cuts off when the car goes off it still will run hot? Don't mean to sound stupid but just want it to run right na mean?lol

Well a lot of people wire the fan up to come on with the key, and its not the correct way to do it. You need a thermostat control. Your fan should have a high, low, and a ground.... The low is for normal fan operation, the high is for a/c cars and it kicks on when the compressor kicks in, and the ground is obvious. Anyways, find the hot on the fan, and using the controller you get from a parts house, wire the hot from the fan to the thermostat controller, and wire the controller to the battery. It will have instructions in case i don't make it clear. You can wire your fan to a fuse, but it will be on all the time, or you can wire it to a switch like most do, and they leave it on and run the battery down. As far as it being on all the time, it doesn't need to be because it slows the air down coming through the radiator by trying to pull it, when it will flow through freely driving down the road. Heat is the worst thing for your engine, and you don't want to have to remember the switch when you hit town traffic. Pick up the controller, it should be with universal fans, I work at Advance Auto and they carry it for sure. Good luck. PM me if u have any more questions.

I have mine on a toggle switch, but I am going to get one of those controlers to, that sounds better than a toggle switch.

basicaly the same controller i have. my fan kicks on at 190 and even if the car is not on and the coolant temp is over 190 the fan will kick on. and no it will not drain ur battery if you wire it correctly. dont go directly to the battery use the starter solonoid (i think) on the drivers side fender with a fuse
