If your using FMS gears just re-use your old shims and you should be set 99% of the time, no setup needed.

damn it's amazing but md is close to being right in that one*LOL* fms tolerance on the gears set are so very close..about the only parts that are but hell I even used the same crush sleeve on mine...

use some white grease on the gears to see where the gears are meshing, you want the contact patch to be centered on the ring tooth and not too deep or shallow on the tooth. you add or subtract pinion shims to get this relationship correct, then you use the side shims to get the backlash set correctly. also advise you use some red locktite on the ring gear bolts too and torque them to spec in a cross hatch pattern too in steps of 1/3 of the total each time until you reach the final torque value.
