Default gas gauge problem

mygas gauge seems to be estimating fuel at higher amounts of gas then actually is in the tank. i know my car, and i know how much gas it usually uses, and the gauge semes to not be reading correctly, this just started like 3 days ago. or it will read fine sometimes, and then i'd start my stang and the needle would climb to about 3/4 full when seconds ago it was at 1/4. like i said i know it's overreading. the float in the tank is like new, replaced last year so i doubt it's that. is the gauge fried or does it sound like a faulty wire or somethin?

Gas gauge reading too high... huh... Im pretty sure the way the sending unit works is the more resistance the lower the fuel reading. Just to make sure though you may want to unplug the connector at the fuel tank with the key in the on position and see if the reading goes to full or empty. I think it goes to Empty(i cant remember off hand). If this is the case then its prolly not the wiring. If it goes to full then the wiring is likely. It doesnt sound like a sending unit problem. If you disconnect the wiring at the tank and it goes to Empty, than you may have a voltage regulator problem internal to the dash pod. Thats the best i can do without more info.
