Alternator questions on a 351 conversion
Ok I picked up my 87 today and decided to make the 1 hr trip home driving it instead of towing it. Well, I got about half way back and realized the voltage gauge was pegged in the red (low). Well, the car started backfiring when I tried to get into the throttle so I finally pulled over and shut it down.
I got a friend to come pick me up and we towed it the rest of the way home. I stopped in and picked up a battery and alternator on the way home. Keep in mind this car was converted to a carbe'd 351. Well, after replacing all that stuff, the car STILL doesn't charge at all. The only thing the guage shows is what the battery has in it so it's barely above the red line.
Well, I got to thinking about it and realized that the alternator we got to replace the one on the car is for a Fuel Injected 351 cause that is what was on it. It uses the factory wiring harness which in my case now is no good. I didn't think about the fact that it wouldn't work. So here is the question.
What do I need to do to convert the alternator wiring over to work with my carbureted 351? If anyone can go into detail I'd GREATLY appreciate it. I havent even got to play with this beast yet.

RE: Alternator questions on a 351 conversion
Well, I got a wiring diagram today for it and it is showing using the stock alternator. The guy told me to trace the wiring down and check all the fusible links. The wiring is kind of a mess, so I may wind up ripping it all out and rewiring everything. But hopefully I can figure it out. More suggestions?

So if the car is carbed it doesnt need all the extra wires that are on the stock harness? I got like 4 wires goin to the alt right now. Does the voltage gauge wire up to the solenoid as well?
