Default MAF sensor question (added exhaust video)

i got a new mass air sensor # E9ZF... (oval connector) i currently have a # E8ZF (rectangle connector).
it will not fit and my current one has wires labled A B C D E and the new one is A B C D...
ive seen these connectors at junkyards, if i got the oval connector and spliced the wires would that work? or will this not work at all?

(88 gt 5spd vert)

Why didnt you just grab a MAF from a 94-95 stang... the maf that you have either does not work for your car, or is not any bigger than stock size...

Not all MAF's are interchangeable.

Just rewire it to the oval connector and you'll be fine. Of the 5 pins on the square connector, one is not used. Just match up the wires properly and you'll be able to use the more common oval connector style MAF's.

shows what you know about MAF's... That MAF has a different set of internal resistances. If he attemps to use it, His car will run like crap.

Get a 94-95 MAF and call it a day.

Let me explain.

The 1988 California Mustangs only were the very first Mustangs to EVER have Mass Air. That connector used on the MAF on that model year only was square. It uses the exact same housing as the 1989-1993's. The airflow vs. voltage is EXACTLY the same in both units. Therefore the MAF curve programmed in his computer will work with the 1989 and later units. All he has to do is put the oval connector on the wiring harness and call it a day. He cannot even put a 94-95 MAF on his car because the connector won't work with it. I do agree with you that the 94-95 MAF is better and would be great for him, but at this point he has a stock unit and probably needs to get the car running. Changing the connector will do that.

And as for me not knowing... read my post here.

thanks for the feedback RNGIII. i got it all spliced in so now i have both connectors on the MAS wiring, but i dont believe it fixed my running rich problem (my previous MAS was literally broken) need to look in other areas i guess to find out whats making me run really rich.

again, let me know how my stang sounds with the new setup..
