Default what do they do?

hey, what do freezeplugs do? when an engine is rebuilt do they need to be replaced and if so how are they installed, are they hammered in?

when an engine is cast, there are holes left in certian passages for sand to be empty out of. the passages are used as coolant passages later, and the freeze plugs just plug the hole so your coolant doesnt leak out. i would replace them if you have the engine out of the car. they're pretty easy you just pop the old ones out and tap the new ones in
