fel pro MLS gaskets or cometic gaskets, both require a very smooth sealing surface

The surface needs to be as smooth as you can get it and scratch free. The MLS gasket is designed to seal up-to a .005 scratch or flaw and thats all. So take this into consideration when deciding which you are going to use.

well im geting m short block rebuilt and im getting afr heads. so itll be smooth

a solid copper head gasket is almost impossible to blow. but they have sealing issues
