Default Is my engine ok?

I lost 3rd and OD in my car so I had to drive to my speed shop, 20 mins away in 2nd with the rpms at a constant 3-4k rpm. Is my car/engine ok from doing this? Is it just basically more wear?

I don't think there's a problem running at those rpm's for only 20minutes....yeah Id say it's just a little extra wear, but nothing you need to be concerned about. Now if it was close to redline, then you might have a problem, but 3-4k should definitely be ok.

yeah, oil change is a good idea and 3-4k you should be fine just some more wear.

+1 I have a manual tranny so I tend to keep it in 4th on the highway and when you're doing 70-75-80 it's right around 3K-3.5K rpms. It's fine.

I had a back halfed Ranchero with 4:11's that I ran 100 miles each way out to the Hamptons on long island every summer for 3 years, my revs were @ least as high as yours, engine was a 400 M as well, it's good for it !

LOL. Based on general engine knowledge (not 5.0 specifc) you have done no harm whatsoever to your motor. In terms of wear, even if you were at 5500 rpms, the wear would be negligible or none. Given, we are talking about an old motor, and forum members have posted that theirengines have broken for no reason at all. But barring that, I'd say your motor is fine. If anything, it may run better than before, if you normally baby the thing.

A good comparison to makeis boatengines, these inboards run close to the red line for hours on end, just change the oil often & they rack up many hours..
