my 94 gt runs like crap...
I bought a 94 GT 5spd w/ 154k on the clock. Its a nice car that I bought in a not running condition. Guy sold it to me thinking the timing chain broke on it because it had died on him going down the road. I discovered after about 30 minutes of inspection that the coil was toasted, so I replaced it and did a tune up with cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. The car fired right up, however it runs like crap.
When the car is at running it shakes pretty badly. It doesnt really matter if you are at idle or driving down the road, it just shakes the crap out of you. It also feels like the throttle response is weak and it seems to be missing quit a bit. It smells very bad on occasion also. The car never has any surging issues with RPMs other than when it misses.
I had a certified mechanic do a fuel pressure test and he said that it was at 24lbs. I dont really know what that means in terms of what it wrong with the car. I can replace just about anything on a car, but Im terrible at diagnosis!
There is no check engine light or anything on, and the computer isnt throwing any codes because I had it checked also.
Every mechanic Ive taken it to just scratches their head.
Any thoughts?

on a side note, the fuel pump I bought from NAPA comes with the bracket, pump, strainer, etc. It doesnt have a float though...do the mustang not use a float type device?

Maybe the chain didn't break (doesn't sound like it) but either it skipped a tooth on the cam, got severly stretched, or it overheated on him and warped something.
Have you done a compression test?
What did the plugs look like?
Oh and VERY basic but I've done this before...make sure all the wires are going to the right plug??? V6 or V8 will run with wires crossed..it will run like crap but it will run....
(add check your timing too)

bone stock car. I know for a fact that the firing order and wires, etc are in the correct order.
the stock plugs had the tip all the way down to the porcelain, and had a gap of about .8. It was absolutely huge.
