Default Changed coil now car runs like $hit.. Why?

I just took out my stock coil and put in an msd blaster 2 coil and did no other changes at all. I go out to race and when i do after like 3500 rpm the car starts to jerk and miss and backfire. What happend to my car? do i need to reset the timing now that my car is getting better spark? I got my *** handed to me in a racebeacuse of that . I was so excited cuz i just got my car tuned and it was runninreally goodwith the stock coil and i thought it would be better with the new one. Has anyone else had this problem from switching the coil?

your putting out more power than you were before. I'd be willing to bet that your wires are shot and you are sparking through them, to ground.

a hotter coil isn't going to help much unless you have great wires with low resit to get the extra juice to the plug. the msd, mallory or accel ignition box are great because of the secondary firepower

And what would i need to fix this problem? That balast resistor? New better wires? Or just leave the stock coil in?

ive got msd 6al ign., msd tfi blaster 2 coil, had some good part store 8mm wires and i arched like i was in a lighting storm show under the hood at high rpm. theywere fine at idle and lowrpm. Iput ford racing 9mm wires and problem solved instantly.... but a good set of wires will solve this issue...

I just had the same problem. I replaced the coil, cap, rotor, wires and plugs. I found out it was actually the wires, they were all burnt up and nasty. One wires clip was actually fused to the plug, no idea how that happend but it was a bitch. I think adder is right...your coil is putting out enough voltage to arc to your headers or something. DONT BUY CHEAP WIRES! That was my original problem, i bought some moroso ones this time.
