Default starter or solenoid in fender???

My car will not start I've tried jumping it and it clicks a few times. The battery is brand new as well as the cables. My question is this.....is there a way to confirm which is bad the actual starter or the starter solenoid in the fender. Thanks guys for the help.

Mounted on the fender is a relay not a solenoid. Take a multi meter and check down on the starter terminals to see if you have any voltage... If you do then you know that it is either the starter itself or the cable connections on the starter. If you dont havevoltage down by the starter then start looking at the relay. Do you havevoltage after the relay when engaged? If not,do you have 12 volts coming into the relay.. If you have 12 volts coming into the relay but nothing coming out then the relay is your problem. If you dont have voltage at the relay then start looking at the ignition switch. Hope this helps....

could also rock the car in gear or hit the starter lightly, may just be a dead spot. Had a similar problem with my car started perfectly and all of a sudden nothing. I got under it hit the starter freed it from the dead spot it started then I knew it was the starter

You will be looking for voltage at the starter, not current, and then only if someone is turning the ignition key to operate the relay (solenoid). I would first check that you have voltage at the battery. It should be 12 volts with the motor not running. Also check the battery positive terminal with the negitive lead touching some place on the frame of the car (Bare Metal). You should still read 12 volts. If at this point you do not read 12V., then you have a ground missing from the frame of the car to the electrical system, (battery). When you get the car running, recheck the voltage across the battery and it should read app. 13.8 volts. This indicates that the alternator is charging the battery.

Hope this helps

take your negative battery cable cut it at the water pump area, relocate it to the Top AC bracket bolt.

try to start the car up then

Back when our cars were made, Ford forgot the term, keep your ground short to chassis as possible

dont be suprised to find alot of green and white stuff coming out from the inside of the wire and burning your eyes as it floats in the air, if thats the case as mine were, replace the cable asap.
