starting ?'s

I know this isnt mustang related but i need help real quick, My friends '98 v6 explorer wont start. battery has a good charge and itcranks over normal speed its not slowed or anything. but it just wont turn over. sometime though it will randomly and it runs fine no problems but just sometimes it wont start at all hot or cold just random. any ideas? he has to go to work in a couple of hours and we wanna try to get it fixed.

could it be bad spark plugs, i just asked him and he said that he's never replaced them....and he's put quite a few miles on that car since hes gotten it...
