Default Local ford dealer is lame...

ready to do 3.73s and the local dealers wont install anything but stock ratios....NE1 know a reputable shop in chicagoland to do gears?...and been reading about installing the Explorer intake...has anyone done it....good increase for mostly stock motor???

if the Ford dealer sells SVT's or you get FMS parts they should do the install, but ultimately its up to them whether or not they want to

Yeah... my dealership will do them for me but they wouldnt give me a price. They just said it would be pricey. I told them the local racing shop would do it for $225 and he said thats a good deal. So I dont think Im gonna mess with the dealer.

i remember when i paid someone to do mine along time ago, it was a new shop, the guy charged me 450, and i supplied the gears, what a rip

lol. You have to know what to say, thats all. You go in there and say i would like to know how much for a rear end pinion and ring replacment. Then they say ok this is how much... blah blah blah. You say, i already have the part. Then you use youre own gears and they would never know. My only question is why would the ford dealer care about doing a gear swap, its not even a newer car.

"professional" mechanics are under the threat of big fines for doing anything that negatively affects the emissions output on any car due to stupid federal laws. fines are up to $10,000 per occurance. changing the rear gears affects the mileage and therefore the emissions so most dealers will not install anything but stock ration rear gears because of this. private shops or speed shops will usually do them no problem though.
