Default Cam Questions

what is the most lift a 95 5.0 with stock pistons can take i'm gonna get different heads at the same time as the cam so thats not an issue. i just need to know what the biggest duration and lift a stock piston can take without banging the valves

first off its not for the car on the post. that one got hit by an uninsured driver and the front end got bent to hell, so its getting a tube frame and a big block.
second right now my other 95 that i'm inquiring about is mostly stock i bought off an old man. it is currently straight-piped with a cold-air intake. i plan on a set of afr 205 or 225 heads and an edelbrock performer 5.0 rpm 2 intake. key thing is i really don't want to have to pull the motor to redo the bottom end.
also are you from jasper in, cause if so thats right up the road from me

no sir i am from KY i orginally had a jasper 308 in my car that i stroked out to a 347 or 349 however u want to look at it. so ur going to to put a 205 on a 302?

i read an article talking about if u had the right kind of cam that this can actually make good power.
as far as cam selction goes talk to jay allen at camshaftinnovations.com i would highly recommend talking to him about your cam selection

also if you go with the 205 the 205's have raised exhaust ports and you would have to upgrade to a 1 3/4 tube header for example 1 5/8 won't work. afr tech told me that personally

im kinda shooting in the dark here but depending on valve size im gonna say about .500

that number can change if you intake valve is a 1.78 or a 1.84 or .194 or 2.02 so its hard to really say if your gonna be using different heads. whatever you do, use some clay or play dough and mock it up first to see where your at if your unsure.

looks to me you don't have any kind of game plan because those heads as WAY TOO much for that intake... a 205 head is a big valve head and unlikley would be fun to drive as a DD...pistons will need to be fly cut for the valves...

You should always check piston to valve clearnace no matter what but i think the limit for 1.9" intake valves is around .530" lift.
