nois not necessary but with all the money you are spending I would do a full rebuild on the engin and the pistion upgrade would make help you gain the most performance out of all you upgrades

well the thing is im tryin to stay out of the motor for the most part, i.e money and time. but i will consider the rebuild. plus the block im using 87-92 already has forged internals. so. will i need to notch the stock pistons like the afr185's or are they fine by themselves?

if you notch the stock pistons your gonna throw the balance outta whack, so everything will need balancing. i cant tell you if the valves will hit, it depends on valve size, the pistons, and the cams lift.

those windsor heads you are talking about are designed to work on any small block ford, doesnt matter 289/302/351w

without knowing flow numbers i would say the AFR 165's are prolly on par with the windsor jr's and the AFR 185's on par with the seniors. i do know that i hear ALOT about AFR, they seem to be pretty widely recognized as excellent heads for SBF's. also dart's, canfields, trick flows (the R heads are wicked but for very high HP applications), even the edelbrocks are nice once your up into the victor jr range heads.

trick flow stage 2 542/563 lift 286/294
or
comp cams xe294h 554/558 lift 294/306

I don't think those windsor srs are going to work out too go on a stock 302 pistons. At my shop we have a stock short block 302 w/ windsor srs and b303 cam and when you spin the motor by hand the valves touch the pistons. I'd hate to see what would happen if someone tried to start it up.

honestly im most likely goin to use a gt40 head for the reason that its more impressive if u say its all ford components with just a cam. but i was just trying to find info on the windsor senior heads.
