RE: New gears but 3.55 or 3.73??
I just picked up my vert from Atlanta after being shipped from Germany and drove to Augusta. I have 3.73s and made just shy of 24 miles to the gallon cruising at 65 mph. If your not interested in top speed (you said your scared to drive fast) then definately go w/ 3.73s, they will get you to point B quick and are just fine for "legal" speed limits. Good Luck

i was looking into new gears too. my stocks are 2.73 so when im around 80mph in just at 2 grand (rpm). the thought of going too big for my car is scary so im thinking about 3.73 but afraid of milage (like an every other day driver) so 3.55s?

RE: New gears but 3.55 or 3.73??
I had 3.08s and was averaging 17 mpg around town. After installing the 3.73s I average 21 mpg and I have a heavy foot. I purchased most of my parts from a local Ford Dealership that carries Ford Motor Sports parts and the rest from Summit racing. Of all the first possible mods that you could do on a Stang, I would highly recommend gears first.
I drove a friends car that had 3.55s, they were "alright", but, 3.73s !!!!!!! I like to watch my passengers slam back and forth into the seat when going through the gears.

You make it sound like there is a huge difference between 55s and 73s.
