Tie rod problem

I went to ford and bought a new inner tie rod to replace my bad one. I just got the bad one off, its different. The one I took off had a rivet through it that had to be removed, an four holes in the part that screws to the steering rack. One in which the rivet went into. Now the new part that ford gave me doesnt have any of these holes, so no rivet. Is this a new design or the wrong part?????

ive never seen them with out the holes in the threads. and why did you go to a dealer to get that? you probably paid twice as much then you should have return it and get one from advanced or autozone. i also hope you counted how many times it made a full spin when you were taking it off. if you didnt your gunna need to take it to get an alignmenti also have never seen a rivit in there only cotter pins

RE: Tie rod problem

The inner tie rod on the left is the one that came off the car, it had a rivet in the inner hole. It also had two more holes on the other side. The new tie rod I got form ford is on the right, it does not have these holes, everything else is the same except the holes. Im not sure if this is a new design or wrong part. The part number for the new part is........F6SZ*3280*CA

well since you dont drive a 96... i'd say they gave you the wrong parts.... return them, call the parts department bad names, then go to autozone!

It's just a new design. As long as all the rest of the characteristics are the same, it will be fine. Put some lok-tite on the threads and put it on.
