no, the speedo gear or cable working or not working will only affect your speedo and odo , no computer problems

yes, the 23t is a jeep part, it is the wrong pitch for either the aod or the t5 it will chew up in some cases under 10k miles, they are white and they are junk

**** more speedo info just so people know
an aod car cannot be corrected past 3.27's , using a ford speedo gear, the 23t will work for 3.55's after that there is no option since the 8t drive gear is a machined on the tailshaft and not replacable (unless you wanted to find a different output shaft)

newer t5 cars have 8t drive gears '90+ so they are like the aod's but the drive gear is c-clipped on the shaft, you can remove the cover and replace it, some minor disassembly is required though, so if your having a t5 rebuilt, have them put the new gear on it then, get a black 6t to be safe, then you can be corrected for anything

'89 and older have 7t's but still can't get corrected for 4.10's w/out using a 23t or swapping the drive gear.

Hello,
I would like some info about the spedo gear also. I have a 93 lx with aod andjust had 3:73's installed and the speedometer is off..used my gps. Which gear/color do I need, the guy at summit racing said something that I did not understand. Thanks

You're toast. See the posts above, you can't correct past 3.27 with a 90+ auto using a Ford speedo gear. You can use the 23 tooth, which is a Jeep part, that will correct up to 3.55. The problem with that is, it will at some point get chewed up and you'll need another. Also, running 3.73's, it'll be close, but no Lewinski. You'll still be off between 5-10mph.

The other option, new output shaft = $$$$$$$
