Help! Lets play is it VALVES or LIFTERS! (vids)
[&:] Here is my problem. My motor is knocking awfully. Plus I got a little smoke comming from my heads (valve cover breathers). I took off a couple of rocker arms to check the push rods around the problem area. The push rods are fine. I noticed that my exhaust valve on cyl 8 looked a little out of adjustment. But I dont have all of the things needed to adjust it. But I think my problem is greater than that. But I can quite decide if it is a lifter problem or I got a valve problem. My first guess is I got some fuket' valves. Thats why i am getting a little smoke from my breather. Because the valve seals arent sealing well do to the fuket' valve. Or I could just have some fuket' lifters. I will probably just remove the heads and hope for the best.
Here are some vids. The first vid is low quality, but you can hear the knock better in it.

the vid makes it sound like a bottom end knock.... take a REALLY LONG screw driver, press it against the block in certain places and put your ear against the end of it... when the noise gets really loud, youve found where its comming from

Naw', it aint low end. I was going to try the whole screw driver trick. But it is so loud under my hood, I dont think it would help much. Plus I am quite sure it is in the back somewhere. Wouldnt help me much if I knew the exact valve or not.

could be your valve covers
rockers hitting against the covers etc.
the gasket might be off.
the cover might be uneven because you can hear
the rockers loud and clear, something is not sealed correctly
if there was something wrong w/ rockers, rods, bottom, etc.
the frigging wouldnt rumble so dam good
when I deleted the smog pump on mine, I didnt disconect the lines
from the back of heads, I plugged half way, and w/o the plug the sound
from it sounded exactly like yours. when I ported the heads the machinist
seale the end and the noise was gone. good luck man

TY for the input. But it isnt the valve covers. They are tall ones, so I actually have a little more room under there. Even though it rumbles well, it noticeably has some performance loss. Really noticeable higher in the RPMs. No exhast leak from my smog pump holes would cause knocking that loud. Looks like I will be checking my head gaskets soon enough.[&:]

If it helps... It does get louder as the motor gets hotter. When the motor is cold. It sounds fine at first. Then when it heats up, as soon as I rev it, it starts tickin'.[:@]

hyd. or mech. cam? if its mech i'd say theres a rocker out of adjustment. if its hyd. i'd say you would have a sloppy rocker arm when the cam is down if the lifter has collapsed.
