I am facing a bit of a dilema. I have an '89 GT 5.0 . I have changed the oil in the car myself several times, but recently due to the convenience factor I took my car to a Oil can henrys. The next day after the car had sat a while, I decided to check my oil. Upon checking the oil I noticed that it had been overfilled. When contacting them they stated that they added 5 qts., and it shouldnt take any less.

I decided to drain the oil and do the oil change myself, I didnt want to drive the vehicle over full. I added 4 qts. and checked the level and to my dismay the dipstick read over full. I started the vehicle to cycle the oil through the filter and the oil level went to full???????? This cant be right!!!!! 4 qts. is not enough.....

I called Landmark Ford and they stated that the vehicle should take no less than 5 qts. I even had them check the part # on the dipstick.........PLEASE HELP!!!!

When you change the oil you do take off both drain bolts right? the one in the front and back? have youbought andaftermarked dip-stick?

Yeah both plugs and obviously the filter. I even let the car drain for approx. 30 min before putting plugs back in. The oil drained fine, no obstructions...

Yes, I dropped both plugs and the oil filter and drained completely.
No aftermarket dipstick, I verified part with local Ford dealer

mine is the same way..... i thought nothing of it sense it was full..... drive it around for a while then check it again...

I did drive it after I put in the 4qts. thinking it would drop, if fell to the full mark on the dipstick. I have been told by some it should take 5qts. and some say 6, this is hard for me to believe????

I have the same problem with mine.

I have a new engine but I put on a chrome dip stick and forgot to compare the stick'sfull level.they should be thesame though for me.

I did the same thing you did put fourquarts inand stillread overfilled,I contacted a mechanic pal that used to work modding outLightnings an mustangs and hesaid to put in the 5th quart in. so I did.

Well my car is not my daily driver, more of the weekender, but it has high miles, but well taken care of. I just dont want to ruin the seals orend up with oil in places it shouldnt be.

are we seriously questioning how much oil to put in it...

stock oilpan=5QTS. no if ands or buts about it... **** w. the dip stick says
