it was actually pre 87 that the forged TRW pistons started, and it went until 92.

1993 was the beginning of hypereutectic(sp) pistons

Default RE: Forged rotating assemblies 87-93?

None of the 5.0 came with forged "rotating assemblies" as the stock crankshafts were cast not forged. However all 1979-93 5.0's came with forged connecting rods. These rods are fine for stock or mild performance applications but come form the factory with a small 5/16" rod bolt (most other companies used 3/8" rod bolts). Although the stock rod will hold up for awhile theyare the first thing to let go in a performanceengine. If you plan on using these rods in a performance application you should replace the stock rod bolts with some ARP's and then have the rods resized. Personally, I always recommend just getting a set of Scat rods. Theycost about the sameamount asyou pay tohave the stock rodsrebuilt with ARP boltsand thier stronger. As for the pistons, all 5.0 H.O. engines from 1985 to 1992 usedaTRW forged piston, but the ones you'll want are the 87-92 pistons.
